UPDATE: *THE T-BONING BY ACX CRYSTAL A CONTAINER SHIP, registered to the Philippines of the Destroyer USS Fitzgerald was deliberate ! *Click, on anything red.

19 Jun

ACX Crystal a container ship and registered to the Philippines; a county I have visited as a Naval Petty Officer; was deliberate as the over 700 foot long container ship turned around and then T-Boned the USS Fitzgerald.

I was in the United States Navy from 1973 to 1979 and Honorably Discharged. As, an Enlisted Second Class Petty Officer.

To, hear of a ship of the same Fleet that I once was attached too; is concerning at best to me as the approximate location of the collision was in line with my work space. Except, I was on an Aircraft Carrier the United States Ship Kitty Hawk CV-63 and attached to a Carrier Early Warning squadron Command; “Hawkeye” VAW-122 out of Norfolk, VA.

First, let me say that I grief for the families, friends, loved once and dead and missing of the U. S. Navy ship Destroyer Fitzgerald.

However, the fact that there is an exclusionary zone of 200 feet around any U. S. Ship, (This, excludes any ship from entering 200 feet zone.) , watches posted and the worlds highest technologies such are satellites; global positioning, radar and Sonar is difficult for me to swallow that is was not an issue of “Dereliction of Duty” on someones part.

Hat’s off, to the crew and officer’s of the USS Fitzgerald; that, kept the ship form sinking “BRAVO ZULU” (Bravo Zulu, mean “Well Done” in Naval terms. I once got one of these from my command. But, it not about me.)

Once again, it sadden’s my heart to hear of the grief and suffering of so many.

A, moment of “SILENCE”; please.

STIFF UPPER LIP; pleasing you the public dedicated to the young lady M. Clark .

15 Nov

I HAVE BEEN GRACED, THESE LAST COUPLE OF DAY WITH THE COMPANY OF A YOUNG LADY; WHICH CLARIFIED THE MEANING OF MEMORIAL DAY.

We often think of the fallen dead on this day.

But, she started my heart felt sorrow as I lessened to her Memorial; celebration of family.

SHE WAS ASKED BY ME TO ATTEND THE  MEMORIAL DAY PARAIDE;  AT, THAT BEGUEST SHE BECAME EMOTIONAL TO THE POINT OF TEARS AND UNCONSOULABLE STATE OF MIND.

I apologized; and, asked the reason for her state of mind, ” She snapped; and stated, ” that she would not attend the parade, due to her personal loss.”  I pressed on.

She stated the recent loss of her brother aboard a ship of the fleet, as he was trying to rescue on overboard crew member and both were loss at sea and not retrieved.  The loss of her grandfather a WWII Veteran; and, first responder at the Twin Towers in New York City, New York; whom lived in New Jersey and was attached to a fire station that responded that day 9-11-01 and had been loss to lung aliments in the following years.

And, the fact that she still had a foster brother; still in the United States Coast Guard, stationed in Virginia.

We, at this time; usually, think of the sacrifices of our “field of dead.”

But, let us not forget; the, suffering of those that are left shattered and grieved as time passes with every ,every year and their ridged attempt to keep a stiff upper lip.

I EXPLAINED TO HER; THAT,  “WHAT BETTER WAY TO MEMORIALIZE THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THIS NATION THAN TO PARTICIPATE; WEARING MY NAVAL SERVICE JACKET (Cracker jack top) AND TELLING THEIR STORY TO ALL.”

SO, THAT OTHERS WILL SEE THE GIVING OF THE PEOPLE (S) THEY LEFT BEHIND AND THE COURAGE OF THOSE THEY LEFT BEHIND; THAN, SHOWING THE PUBLIC A ” Stiff upper lip” .
