Republicans, for Governor of Maine meet again in second round prior to 12 June 2018 Primary.

14 May

Once, again I must be frank.  I am totally in agreeance with Mrs. Mary Mayhew on most points of views.

In, a forum I watched I was in agreeance as to her views on education.  And, my views are from a Lewiston, Maine prospective.

Mr. Soule’s view (MSV):  Did, you not know that Lewiston, Maine has a “Treebate Program” (for those that qualify.  You, must own property and spend $100.00 dollars to qualify for a $10.00 decrease in your property tax.   How, does the City of Lewiston, Maine make up the loss revenue in taxes from individual’s that do not have to pay the $10.00 dollars ?  They, increase the taxes on / of  individuals that did not avail themselves of the “Treebate Program”.   So, how you businesses in Lewiston, Maine feeling now / over taxed and less not forget the business in default on their taxes past or present.  Right, Colisee !

Taxes:

Mrs. Mary Mayhew stated, I believe there is still wasteful spending in government, unnecessary spending in government that could support further reductions in the income taxes of Maine’s.   And, ultimately we will have to factor in the increased economic activity that is generated when you eliminate this unnecessary spending in government with regards to Business growth and extra income to individual Mainer’s.

Education:

One, was that teen should be restrained from holding a job as too number of hours being put-in.   Unless, the hours of work are associated with an educational program that leads to one’s knowledge of area of future studies.  Or, job upon graduation.

Funding education:

Mrs. Mayhew, wants a refocus or reframe on educational student knowledge as to financing of educational programs without means testing of acceptability.

Mr. Soule views (MSV).   Take Lewiston, Maine of the 100 percent that start the 9th grade.  25 percent will have dropped out prior to graduation of they class.   And, of this 75 percent 32 percent will be graduated without being able to read or do math at a 12 grade level.   FactCheck: bwebster@lewistononpublicschools.org at Suchool budget presentation for Fiscal Year 2019 Budget.

Medicare expansion:

Mrs. Mary Mayhew on Expansion was a hit-the-nail-on-the-head.

In, that she would put forward a budget to repeal it.   As, passed by the Voter of Maine in November 2017.

As, I see it the expansion would mean an increase to the average Maine family what is struggling under winter electrical increases, increase to property taxes, goods and government services.

And, then again there in the fact that to increase Medicare services Maine must increase it share to the federal government side; so, it can get an increase from the Federal Government to cover the cost of the increase ?   Increase, to get increase reminds me of the Lewiston, Maine School budget that was increased by 11.3 percent to get a larger portion out of Maine for it troubled city finances.

Mr. Soule’s view (MSV):   The rate was for every $1.00 dollar increase by Lewiston, Maine the State of Maine would put in $3.00.  This was “Ludicrous” !    Is, that anyway to budget yourself ?

Workforce Development.

Mrs. Mayhew, was on the realization that some student will not fair well in College.  And, that for these student on the job training with paycheck attached might be a stimulus the their future productivity and educational worth.

While, others might fair well with institutions much like Central Maine Community Colleges or specialized Technical Schools.

Respectfully,  Mr. Charles Arthur Soule .  .  .  .  .  true as to my notes and recollections.
